You care about neighbourhoods and food
Vancouver gets much better when you stop treating downtown landmarks as the whole city.

A good split is rarely equal. Allocate nights according to the experiences that need time, then avoid unnecessary hotel moves.

Vancouver gets much better when you stop treating downtown landmarks as the whole city.
A late international arrival should not count as a useful sightseeing day.
Capilano, Grouse, Deep Cove or longer waterfront plans can easily consume a separate day.
City activities are easier to reshuffle than fixed mountain reservations.
Two or more mountain days justify a longer resort stay quickly.
A hard outdoor day feels better when the next morning is not a checkout morning.
Shorter daily agendas and fewer hotel changes usually improve the trip.
If the trip exists because of Whistler, build around that rather than forcing a 50/50 split.
Squamish is not mandatory as a hotel base. Add a night when you want a real climbing, biking, hiking, gondola or fjord-focused day, or when slowing the corridor into two travel days improves the trip.
Do not add a Squamish hotel simply to break up a drive that normally takes around two hours without stops. In a short itinerary, another check-in can create more friction than value.
Operating dates, road conditions, transit, parking, lift access and park information can change. Check current details before you commit the day.
